George Brinton McClellan (December 3, 1826 – October 29, 1885) was an American soldier, civil engineer, railroad executive, and politician who served as the 24th Governor of New Jersey. Roney, a native of New York, enlisted as a private on June 6, 1861 in Col. Edward D. Baker's California Regiment, which became the 71st Pennsylvania Infantry. He received a disability discharge on February 1, 1863. Apparently Roney recovered and enlisted in the 189th New York Infantry on September 21, 1864, serving until June 1, 1865.
